About two years ago I moved from a very large house to a relatively small house. (The children are college graduates and employed!) This was a great opportunity to sort through my large collection of fabric but I also discovered that I had more than 20 quilts in different stages of production. Once I settled into my new home I vowed to finish these quilts before I added any more fabrics to my stash. I have lived up to this vow only partially - I have been completing these quilt projects but I can't help adding more to my stash. I cannot resist the beautiful fabrics I see in local quilt shops and in my travels.
I love making quilt tops! I really dislike the struggle to quilt them with a standard home sewing machine. Over the years, I have had about a dozen quilts completed by various longarm quilting services. It was the summer of 2007 that I decided it was time to purchase my own longarm quilting machine, which I did in August, purchasing a Gammill Statler Stitcher. I'm learning by doing, lots of practice, books and instructional DVDs. In October, I traveled to Texas for training at Linda's Electric Quilters - a business started by Linda Taylor, a well known expert and educator in machine quilting techniques. In Septerber 2008 I will be travelling to Missouri for 5 more days of extensive training.
Since the arrival of my machine, I have quilted more than 100 quilts! I'm really enjoying this hobby!
